Mrs. Joanna (Jody) Hoornik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Nyack College in Nyack, New York. After graduating she taught at Christian schools in Virginia and Delaware before dedicating her energies to raising her three now grown children. During that time, Jody first encountered and became committed to the classical education method, teaching for a number of years at the Tall Oaks Classical School in Newark, Delaware. Her children were educated in the Classical model, and they continue to benefit from this solid foundation. Jody has been at Hunter for the past four academic years teaching second grade, and sharing her passion for classical education with students and parents. A hallmark of Mrs. Hoornik’s classroom is the sound of children reciting poems and singing jingles to help recall facts from America’s presidents to parts of speech in grammar. She is excited to expand on her love of teaching classical education with Hunter’s Fifth grade students. When not teaching, she enjoys spending quality time with her children and three grandchildren.
